Croeso, dyma Gweriniaeth Cymru.

This is the home of Gweriniaeth Cymru (Republic of Wales), a consortium of Welsh patriots, campaigning for an independent Welsh Republic. We believe that Cymru alone should have control and profit from its natural resources for the benefit of its citizens.

Our vision for Cymru is an independent Welsh Republic free from the influence of an undemocratic foreign monarchy and its colonial institutions.

We will continue to campaign for the compulsory colonial oath to be replaced with a choice; we want the alternative to be an oath of allegiance to the constituents or to Cymru rather than to the Crown. Currently, the political system is biased against Republicans. In a modern democratic society, swearing allegiance to a foreign monarchy should not be compulsory.

The aim is to register a Welsh Republican Party to give republicans a ballot option. To stay true to our principles, we would not swear allegiance to a foreign King; therefore, we will only contest local elections where those elected are not required to swear an oath of allegiance.

Could a Welsh Republican Party ever be successful?

Absolutely - It can be successful in

 .  Shifting public debate.

  • Reshaping political agendas,

  • Winning local seats.

  • To maintain a public platform for “Welsh republicanism”.

Would you consider contesting your local election as a Republican candidate or a paper candidate?

What is a paper candidate?

1. A name on the ballot only. They stand so the party isn’t absent from the contest.

2. Minimal or zero campaigning. No leaflets, canvassing, fundraising, or public events.

3. Initially, there will be little expectation of winning; the main aim is to maintain visibility and keep the Welsh Republican cause topical.

4. On the plus side, there is no cost to contest Community/Town or County elections, and those councillors elected are not required to swear an oath of allegiance.

Let's consider establishing a Welsh Republican Party to give us a voice at the elections. If interested, let us know via our contact page.

Principles:

Equality: A belief that all citizens should have equal status without inherited privilege, rejecting the institution of monarchy.

Self-governance: Support for Welsh independence, enabling the country to govern itself free from Westminster.

Democratic values: Aiming to establish a republic with an elected head of state rather than a hereditary monarchy.

Preservation of culture and identity: Promoting the Welsh language, heritage, and national pride as part of their vision for a sovereign Cymru.
